    Sharp-shinned Hawk-Accipiter striatus
Sharp-shinned Hawk-Accipiter striatus, Order FALCONIFORMES - Family ACCIPITRIDAE - Subfamily Accipitrinae. While driving through Hueston Woods State Park, I came across this beautiful Sharp-shinned Hawk. Since it was so cooperative, I took many photos, some of which are here.

    (Photo: May 6, 2004, Hueston Woods, Canon 10D, EF 400mm f/5.6L USM)

"A small hawk, the Sharp-shinned Hawk is a regular visitor to bird feeders, where it eats birds, not seed. The male and female show a greater disparity in size than any other American hawk; the female is nearly twice the weight of the male."
