    Female Eastern Bluebird
    Full Size Image = 731 K
    Female Eastern Bluebird- Sialia sialis
Female Eastern Bluebird- Sialia sialis, Order PASSERIFORMES - Family TURDIDAE. A spectacular and beautiful bird. The female is not as colorful. "The male Eastern Bluebird does a "Nest Demonstration Display" at the nest cavity to attract the female. He brings nest material to the hole, goes in and out, and waves his wings while perched above it. That is pretty much his contribution to nest building; only the female Eastern Bluebird builds the nest and incubates the eggs. The popularity of "bluebird trails" and the erection of nest boxes across the country have led to increased bluebird populations in many areas." This female was found in the Brookville Reservoir area in extreme western Indiana near the Ohio border. (Photo: April 10, 2004, Canon 10D, EF 300mm f/4.0L IS USM, 1.4x teleconverter EF ll lens )
